Sophie
Where are you these days?
I am currently moving back home to Billund from boarding school after finishing my last IB Diploma exam.
What was it like to make the transition from ISB into a new environment?
The transition from ISB to IB Diploma was much easier than I had expected. Although it was a big transition from IB MYP to DP, the overall academic level was similar.
What did you carry with you from ISB that’s been the most valuable?
Good time management has been the most valuable lesson from ISB, as it helped me successfully transition from middle school to high school. More specifically, the good time management skills have allowed me to achieve good grades, whilst maintaining a good social life, and is a skill I will continue to implement.
Now that you’ve been out in the “real” world for a while, how has your view of ISB changed?
My view of ISB has remained largely the same, as I continue to think that it is a good school, that allows its students to both have fun and be academically challenged.
What do you miss the most from ISB?
Throughout my years at ISB I have created many life long memories. However, the MYP M4 & M5 English lessons at ISB is the one thing that I miss the most. Charlotte, my then English teacher’s lessons, did not only challenge me academically, but also made me reflect on a range of interesting topics. Her English lessons was always the highlight of my day and has taught me many skills, such as analytical skills, that I have been able to implement across my IB DP subjects. I also miss the fun homeroom lessons with Awanti. Thank you both Awanti and Charlotte for making my time at ISB especially memorable.
What advice do you have for the current M5s?
My main advice for the current M5s is to take a deep breath, relax and to take it one day at the time. When I initially stated M5 I believed that it would be extremely academically difficult, which made me very overwhelmed. However, before I could think twice the year was over. Although it was challenging at times, M5 was easier than I initially expected and I wish that I had maintained a better balance between the academics and social life.
What are your plans for the future? School, job, travel?
My short term future plans is to take a gap year, to challenge my self in other ways than academics, and to then go to university to study business or law.
Any messages for your old teachers?
Thank you for making my years at ISB highly enjoyable and memorable. Keep up the amazing work you are doing!
