Admissions process
Requirements
NB:
There are places remaining in P1/0. klasse
(children born in 2018) for the 2024/25 school year.
For English
In our lower grade levels (K1-P3), ISB accepts students with no previous experience in English. Students entering upper Primary (P4-P5) must be able to achieve fluency before entering Middle School. Students entering Middle School must be fluent in English. Find our full admissions policy here.
For Middle School
Due to the structure of the Middle Years Programme, students are normally not able to start at ISB in the final year of the MYP (M5), but must start at the beginning of M4 or earlier. There may be exceptions for students joining from another IB school.
Steps
Visit
We expect all prospective families (parents and children) to visit the school during one of our Tour Tuesdays at 8:30 on the first Tuesday of each month. Please register by emailing [email protected] or by scheduling a tour here.
Apply
It is very important that the application is complete with all necessary information, as this will facilitate the decision-making process. Failure to disclose information regarding diagnoses or known health/behaviour issues may result in your child being expelled from school.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to send a questionnaire to the reference of your choice. This is an opportunity for us to get a sense of your child’s learning style and any other information relevant to helping him or her settle in at ISB. You will also be asked to upload copies of the student’s birth certificate, passport, and school reports from the previous two years. Kindergarten students will be sent a separate evaluation to be completed by a caregiver.
Application fee
The cost to apply is DKK 500 per student. Once you have submitted your application, payment details will be sent to you via email.
Assessment
Once we have received the application fee and requested information, your child will be invited to an interview/assessment. Families not yet in the country will complete the interview via Skype. Students from P1-M5 will take a short assessment. The assessment provides an indication of the student’s academic level and any possible learning support that may be required.
Admission
The admissions team evaluates new applications twice a month. Applicants are then admitted, wait-listed or declined.
If your child is placed on the waiting list, the application will be reviewed quarterly. While on the waiting list, parents are allowed to decline an offered place once and retain their spot on the waiting list. The second time an offered place is declined by the parents, the child will be permanently removed from the waiting list. A new application must be made if the child continues to seek admission.
ISB reserves the right to decline admission if our evaluation suggests that ISB will not be the best fit for your child.
Registration fee
If admitted, parents are asked to pay a non-refundable enrollment fee of DKK 3000 per family. Once this fee has been paid, the child’s place is secured.
Leaving ISB
Permanent withdrawal
Notification of withdrawal must be submitted within 30 days plus the remainder of the current month. This also applies to students leaving at the end of the school year. A withdrawal form is available from the office.
Long-term leave
Occasionally we have ISB families requesting leave for a shorter or longer period. In these situations families can either:
- Request to keep their spot(s) by paying the full fee while away on long-term leave. This may not always be possible.
- Apply to get re-enrolled at ISB when returning from the long-term leave. In this case ISB will charge the application and registration fees upon return. Former ISB students will be given priority before everyone else on the waiting list, but we cannot guarantee a spot.
Should you have questions about any of the above, please contact Admissions Officer Regina Rasmussen at [email protected]
