History

In 2021, The Playful Schools Leadership Network (PSLN) was set up by the LEGO foundation as a two year engagement project for innovative schools to get connected and empowered through collaboration and building capacity in leadership and practice.

We understand what we call Learning through Play in schools to be innovative pedagogies which puts the child at the centre, and develop holistic skills such as creativity, social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills with joy and engagement. This takes many forms and many names. It is an inclusive construct, inspired by practices and pedagogies with the same spirit and intent.

The Playful Schools Leadership Network (PSLN) is also a part of a wider ecosystem with opportunities for sharing with and being inspired by others, and a chance for innovations to shape policy and practice in many global forms.

The PSLN project ended after 2 years but many of our members were keen to continue, so in 2023, International School of Billund and other playful schools came together and formed the Playful Schools Network. We meet 3-4 times a year (online) and where possible in person. We also collaborate on our annual Playful Schools Conference.
